1972-1976: Assistant at the herbarium of the Institute of Systematic Botany, State University, Utrecht, The Netherlands; 1976-1982: Research Associate at the Institute of Systematic Botany in Utrecht; 1983: PhD degree at Utrecht State University, Utrecht, The Netherlands; 1983-now: Curator of Lichens at the Botanischer Garten & Botanisches Museum Berlin-Dahlem; from 1995-1998 also Deputy Curator of Bryophytes and since September 1996 collaborator of the Department of Biodiversity Informatics and Laboratories; retired January 2010.

Lichen flora of Colombia; a preliminary checklist is published.
